Identify, in the form of a talkback host's decision, the preferred action(s) and justify with reasoned argument. The reasons (social, political, economic etc) are linked logically and supported with evidence

Task 1 - Evidence may include

  • Build a small hotel - will have less impact on environment
  • Built eco friendly hotel - tourists responsible for own rubbish. They must take all rubbish back with them.
  • Don't build a hotel - then there will be no damage to the environment.

Task 2 - Evidence may include
The best action is to not build a hotel at Scott Base, because otherwise there will be massive damage to the Antarctic environment. Even if people take their own rubbish back home with them, the buildings will be taking over land that may be important nesting sites for penguins. People will want to get up close to wildlife to take photos and this will scare them away and force them to find other places away from humans to nest, etc.
