Volcanic History
The volcano is part of the Auckland Volcanic Field, which comprises 48 cones and craters. The Auckland Regional Council (ARC) has produced an excellent Web site The Volcanoes of Auckland, which provides valuable background information about Auckland's volcanoes, including Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill. The site also provides a comprehensive glossary of terms associated with volcanic environments. This map of the Auckland volcanic field was produced by Les Kermode in 1988.

Human History
The human history of Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill-Cornwall Park is summarised in the Auckland City Council's Maungakiekie Management Plan and the History of Cornwall Park.

The Cornwall Park Trust Board, which is responsible for Cornwall Park, also has a website. The Park Visitor Centre has a comprehensive Education Pack for schools. You can order this pack from the Visitor Centre Manager (huialodge@xtra.co.nz if you live outside Auckland. Most of the information is available online.
