This virtual field trip can be conducted at any curriculum level from 1-5.
It focuses on the first achievement aim of the
Place and
Environment Strand:
people's interaction with places and the environment. Choose the
Curriculum Level appropriate to the Year level you are teaching.
Processes
Taking a Virtual Field Trip is an example of Social Studies
Inquiry.
There are also opportunities for Values Exploration and Social
Decision Making at some levels.

(Essential Learning about New Zealand Society): the physical environment
of New Zealand and how people interact with the landscape;
Key terms or concepts
include:
Interaction - how different elements of
an environment (e.g. people, natural features like volcanic cones,
vegetation, animals) affect each other;
Consequences - effects, outcomes, results, aftermath;
Influence - may cause or bring about changes but not necessarily directly
or overtly;
Place - a topographical location, a spot, a feature like
Maungakiekie/One
Tree Hill-Cornwall Park;
Environment - a geographical area or region with distinctive features such
as an urban environment or a volcanic environment or a rural environment
or a school environment.
The focus of these virtual field trips is on how people
use and have
used
Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill-Cornwall Park, and how people's actions
have affected the volcanic cone and area surrounding it.
Note: Each Virtual Field Trip is a learning activity designed to fit
into a unit of work. They are not intended to be complete units of
work and consequently address only part, not all, of a
Strand Achievement Objective.
