Introduction

Welcome to our Virtual Field Trips to one of Auckland's cultural and natural icons.

This volcanic cone, one of the 48 volcanic cones and craters that make up the Auckland volcanic field, has been occupied by people for hundreds of years.

There are five Virtual Field Trips, one for each compulsory level of Social Studies in the New Zealand Curriculum. Each Virtual Field Trip has been developed to meet the Requirements of the curriculum.

Each Virtual Field Trip is based around the same core of resources - photographs and relevant web sites. The focus, learning outcomes and activities have been adapted to address the strand achievement objective, Place and Environment 1, at each level.

Students taking a Virtual Field Trip will be Conducting a Social Studies Inquiry. Each Virtual Field Trip is intended to be an Inquiry based learning activity, not a complete unit of work. You are free to decide where and when you can fit the relevant Virtual Field Trip into your programme.

If you would like additional resources on Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill and Cornwall Park contact the Cornwall Park Visitors Centre which has an excellent Education Pack for schools.
