Level 4: how Maungakiekie/One Tree
Hill and Cornwall Park reflect past interactions of people
with the environment.
Learning Outcome:
Students will:
Explain how Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill-Cornwall Park has been used by
people over time, and support their explanation with evidence.
Suggested Activities
Students work in pairs or small groups and
create their own Detective Agency.
Each group is to dig up evidence to show how Maungakiekie/One Tree
Hill-Cornwall Park has been used by people at different times in the past.
They are to present their findings to their clients - who could be small
groups of their peers, whole classes, their teacher(s), their families -
in an illustrated booklet or as a web page or multimedia presentation.
Before the Virtual Field Trip organise the class
into Detective Agencies. Each agency must have a name, a slogan, a logo,
an ID card and an office or working space.
During the Virtual Field Trip each Detective Agency must collect
evidence - photographs, sketches, maps, quotes for example - that shows
what people did on and around the Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill volcanic
cone at different times in its history. Collecting and recording on this
Virtual Field Trip could include downloading some of the photographs.
After the Virtual Field Trip each Detective Agency processes and
presents their findings to their clients. Presentation
strategies could include written reports - private investigator style or
oral reports with the clients having the opportunity to question the
investigators.
Assessment
Presentation of findings.
