The Romans loved taking
baths.
Paulus Holmies On Tour
Students work in threes.
Student A has a special assignment - to take intrepid Roman reporter Paulus Holmies (Student B)
on a
tour around
a Roman Bath house.
Student A must explain to Paulus
why
people went to the baths; and what people actually
did at the baths.
Paulus Holmies, as a well informed reporter, has done his homework and read
all about the baths. He is ready to interview a Roman bather (Student C).
Paulus Holmies interviews a bather
After reading material on the Roman Baths, conduct an interview with Student C (the
bather) using the following format.
Yes, well, here we are at the newly constructed Julius Cassius Baths; I'm
just about to ask somebody what it is like to be a part of the crowd down
here.
Q1. Excuse me Sir/Madam I could not help but notice that the floor is
extremely hot in here. My feet are burning. Could you please explain the
reason for this?
Response:
Q2. How do they get the floor so hot and how can I stop my feet from
burning?
Response:
Q3. That person over there is having their back scraped by a type of
scraper. It looks awfully painful to me, yes well, what is the name of the
scraper?
Response:
Q4. I mean it is quite obvious that the pools are a nice place to relax.
How often do you come here?
Response:
Q5. It must get quite boring just sitting in these pools talking. Are
there other forms of entertainment available at these pools?
Response:
In their group of three the students design five more questions (and answer them) about the Roman baths.
