Divide the class into two large groups.
Group One is to consider all the advantages of McDonaldisation.
Group Two is to consider all the disadvantages of McDonaldisation.
Either provide students with access to the following resources online or
printed copies of the resources, and a blank Semantic Web to fill in.
After students (individually or in pairs) have had time to read the material
and completed their Semantic Webs, organise the class into groups of four -
two from the Advantages group and two from the Disadvantages group.
Students discuss the Pros and Cons of McDonaldisation and complete a PMI
Chart. Alternatively use de Bono's Six
Thinking Hats to analyse the Pros and Cons of McDonaldisation.
Points of View
Divide the class into groups of three.
Student A is a consumer of McDonaldised products and services;
Student B is a worker in a McDonaldised organisation;
Student C is a manager in a McDonaldised organisation.
Each group discusses the Pros and Cons of McDonaldisation for them,
personally, in their role.
Provide students with a Triple Venn
diagram so they can compare their different points of view.
This material has been produced by UNITEC Institute of Technology
under contract to the Ministry of Education.
