Ask each student to write down what they think significant means, in terms
of a significant place. Then share ideas. (eg. of exceptional interest,
unique, of distinctive quality, historically important)
Get students to list significant places in their area.
They now group or classify these places, eg. cultural, sporting, religious, natural, personal.
Write up these headings then ask students to suggest other significant
places that fit these categories, first in New Zealand then overseas. Write up suitable
suggestions as you go.
