Select a sample of terraces at different points around the mountain (eg. on
an east facing slope, a west facing slope, on top of a ridge) and measure
the length and breadth of each terrace. It is not necessary to have
measuring tapes (although they are useful); just pace out the distances.
Select a sample of storage pits (eg. on the southern ridge, on the
northeastern ridge of the small crater, and down on one of the northwesterly
facing terraces). Pace out the width and length. Estimate the depth by
having students stand in the pits. (Remind them that the pits have been
partially filled in by erosion and vegetation growth so they would have been
much deeper than they are now.)
