- It is a waste of ratepayers' money to turn a place that very few people
use into an historic reserve.
- What's all the fuss about? There are plenty of other volcanoes in
Auckland - One Tree Hill and Mt Eden for starters.
- We should be spending our money dealing with some of the social problems
in our area not on preserving some old Maori pa.
- We need to get our priorities right. We should spend our money on
libraries, swimming pools, a decent public transport system and such like
before we start setting up historic reserves.
- We are running out of land for housing development now. They should spend
their money on buying the land and building a few more houses for families
and old people instead of on some useless reserve.
- How much more land do those Maoris want? They'll be wanting to claim our
homes next.
- Why's the council planning to spend our rates on that place - it's a real
eyesore. And it's a hangout for street-kids and other criminal types.
- So it's an old Maori pa? So what? The council's already wasted millions
of dollars on some old paddocks covered with stones. Better to have quarried
the stuff and turned the place into something useful.
- No one I know is the slightest bit interested in pouring money into a
place they don't go to or have the slightest intention of going to.
- They'll turn it into a reserve and then stop the public like you and me
from going there. You wait and see.
