Food Resources Plaque
This plaque, located on the road on the western slope of the mountain
(almost directly below the trig) illustrates sources of protein eaten by the
Maori inhabitants of the pa - shellfish, birds, fish, rats and dogs.
Garden Mounds Plaque
This plaque, located about 20 metres due west of the stile by the Sports
Clubrooms carpark, points to grassy mounds that were once raised gardens
whose stones absorbed heat and moisture, extending the growing season just
like modern day glasshouses.
Terrace Dwelling Plaque
This plaque, located at the western end of the southern ridge, is a scale
model of a dwelling terrace complete with houses, cooking area and piles of
pallisades.
This material has been produced by UNITEC Institute of Technology
under contract to the Ministry of Education.
