Select an area of wall display space, preferably along a wall at about eye
level. Staple, tape or pin large (A1 or A2) sheets of black paper - sugar
paper is fine - in a long strip along the wall. This is going to form the
background for the timeline.
Prepare a Key Event Card (A5 is a practical size) for each
Historic event.
Each card should have a title and a brief outline of the key event - enough
information for the students to be able to create an image from.
Organise students into pairs or small groups.
Provide each pair with one or more of the Key Event Cards that you have
prepared.
Using coloured paper, glue, tape, string, pipe cleaners and other suitable
materials each group creates a visual image representing their event. 3D
images have much more impact then simple images drawn on paper - so
encourage creativity.
Each finished image is attached to the Timeline in the correct chronological
order along with the summary of key points.
Once the Timeline has been completed it may be appropriate for each group to
briefly explain their image to the class.
The completed Timeline provides a valuable reference for students as they
work through the rest of the unit.
