New Zealand is small and isolated. We depend heavily on trade with other countries. We have a great climate, so we can grow some things really well - trees for instance, and many farm animals. Because we produce more than we need, we EXPORT the rest to other places in the world. We can’t make or grow everything we want - bananas and rice, for example (most of New Zealand is too cold), and we don’t produce enough oil for our needs, so we IMPORT those things.

TRADE
Takes place when goods are exchanged.
EXPORTS
Goods sent to another country to be sold.
IMPORTS
Goods brought in from another country.
