Achievement Standard 1.1 Describe change in
society.
This Achievement Standard is externally assessed. The following assessment
is a guided walk through of how the assessment could be answered. Describe change in society.
Assessment focus: In this achievement standard students will be expected
to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of at least one of:
- settings in New Zealand and beyond
- perspectives on current issues and/or the future.
Note:
Society refers to the broader human society
within which there are a variety of discrete societies.
Describe means to give a detailed account using
supporting evidence.
Explain means to support with reasons or justify using supporting
evidence.
In depth means students must do one or more of the following as required
by the assessment activity:
- classify reasons using social studies ideas and terms
- describe and explain relationships and
interrelationships between reasons and effects
- use different perspectives to examine reasons and effects.
Task 1
Complete the table to help sort your ideas about changes
in ideas and beliefs as a result of the Vietnam War and the movement
of the sixties. This is not assessed.

Task 2:
Describe and explain the changes to beliefs and ideas in society brought
about as a result of the Vietnam War and the anti-war peace movement
of the sixties.
Present this as a couple of paragraphs that include at least three main
changes.
Task 3:
Describe the effects of changes brought about by the Vietnam War on
American and New Zealand societies. Use the information you recorded on
your fishbone diagram (Activity 10) to help you in this. You need
to include information that covers a variety of perspectives (consider
gender, current and future issues for this topic). Present this as a
paragraph(s).
