3890 New Zealand servicemen and women volunteered and served in the Vietnam War, 3,881 men and 9 women. 60% of these were Maori. 37 were killed and 187 were wounded in action between 1964 and 1972. A civilian surgical team worked in Qui Nhon from 1963 to 1975. The pages Our War and the photographs with this unit of work present some impressions of what the war was like for those New Zealanders who were involved. Further impressions are available in the book the Vietnam Scrapbook by M Subritsky, Three Feathers Publishing company, 1995. However there is no material available on the Internet that presents the viewpoint of New Zealanders. Students completing the activity that follows may wish to use the Internet but will only be able to access the stories of Vietnam veterans from America and Australia.
