Divide the class into groups of four students and provide each group with a large piece of paper.
  • Have them draw up their page into a picture frame.

  • Have each student write down what they know about the Vietnam War in their own outside section of the frame in two minutes.

  • Have the groups compare what each individual has written and transfer common ideas into the centre of the frame.

  • Develop a view of what the class knows about the Vietnam War by comparing the information each group has in the centre of the frame.

  • Use the information gathered to help you plan this unit of work.

  • Have students retain the frame-ups to refer to later and modify or recreate at the end of the unit.

  • Use the overview to explain what this unit of work will be about.
