What does the Declaration of Human
Rights
say about access to safe water and sanitation?
Think Pair Share
Either provide each student with a copy of Article 25
Or enlarge it on to an OHT (minimum font size 18) for the whole class to
see.
Article 25:
Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and
well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing
and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in
the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other
lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
Students, on their own initially, Think about the key items that everyone
has a right to, according to Article 25. Encourage them to write these terms
down - as lists, or using a web type
graphic
organiser.
After two minutes students Pair up and compare their lists/webs. Allow
another two minutes for this.
Finally students Share their ideas with the class as a whole (or in small
groups if that is more appropriate - use your professional judgement).
Discuss whether or not water features in Article 25.
If so, where?
If not, why not?
Should it be? Why?
What should be done?
