Health Shakers
This year 11 history activity is designed to help students focus on an
outstanding woman as an agent of social change and to consider the impact
of outstanding women in public, community and family health care.
History Detective
This year 11 history activity is designed to help students make biographical
notes on key people in New Zealand's history. It is assumed that the background
to a specific topic will have been taught and that the students have developed
a list of names to research.
Kiwi Mates
This year 11 history activity is designed to help students select relevant
evidence for key personalities, their positions and viewpoint(s) over
the ANZUS Treaty 1951 and to describe how ANZUS was important in changing
New Zealand's international relations and identity.
Māori and Pākehā
Race Relations
This year 11 history activity is designed to introduce students to the
Dictionary of New Zealand Biography and may also be a useful revision
activity.
Learning activities for year 13
Enterprise and Achievement
This year 13 history activity is designed to help students understand
the development of key industries and other economic activities that contributed
to the development of the New Zealand economy. It is expected that students
will have done some background work on this topic in class.
Harvest and Hardship
This year 13 history activity is designed to help students understand
the way relations developed between Māori and Pākehā during
1800–1840. It is expected that students will have done some background
work on this topic in class.
Migration and
Social Issues
This year 13 activity is designed to introduce students to the Dictionary
of New Zealand Biography and may also be a useful revision activity. It
requires some background knowledge of History, Part C, Society and Attitudes.
Northern War 1845–1846
This year 13 history activity is designed to help students examine some
of the ways Māori and Pākehā interacted with each other
during the nineteenth century with particular reference to the origins
and consequences of the New Zealand Wars 1845–1892. It focuses specifically
at the Northern War 1845–1846.
Settlement and Society
This year 13 history activity is designed to help students understand
the aspirations and achievements of different nineteenth century groups
of migrants to New Zealand. It is expected that students will have completed
some background work on this topic in class. In particular they need to
be familiar with the ideas of Miles Fairburn, Caroline Daley, Rollo Arnold,
Jock Phillips, and Stephen Eldred-Grigg about the nature of nineteenth
century New Zealand society.
Society and Attitudes
This year 13 history activity is designed to help students activity examine
the struggle for women's suffrage as a major social issue in nineteenth
century New Zealand by considering some of the key personalities involved
in the issue. It examines the arguments for and against women attaining
the vote, and the overall position of women in nineteenth century New
Zealand society.
William Colenso Eagerness
and Ego
This year 13 history activity is designed to help students select some
relevant evidence as part of a research process. Students will create
an outline that can be used for a more in-depth study of a nineteenth
century missionary, and to examine relationships between them and local
iwi in nineteenth century New Zealand. It is expected that students will
have completed work on historical inquiry method in class.
