| Our Small World
Soundbites
(a) Organise the class into small groups of 3-5. Provide each group with a set of
Soundbites.
Either: photocopy (or print out) the Soundbites onto card and provide each group with the cards and scissors;
Or: photocopy (or print out) the Soundbites onto card, cut them into single bites; laminate them and store them in envelopes. Each group will receive a pre-cut set of cards.
(b) The group divides the Soundbite cards evenly amongst its members.
(c) Watch the video again. Each group member is responsible for identifying their
Soundbites' "owners". (Answers!)
(d) Still in their groups, students analyse the 42 Soundbites and identify:
- changes that have taken place (and are still taking place) in Tokelauan culture and
society
- aspects of Tokelauan culture and society that have remained much the
same
(e) Each group records their findings on a large (A3 at least) Structured
Overview, Bubble Map or other graphic organiser
of their choice.
(f) Each group presents their findings
to the class.
(g) Pin the Structured Overviews and Bubble Maps around the classroom or store them for future reference.
