Basic model
Schools wishing to review and further develop their processes for recognising and responding to the diverse needs of students are encouraged to use the model outlined in this website.
By working through the stages of the model (see Developing your model), a customised flowchart can be developed to reflect the school's unique system for identifying and responding to the diverse needs of students.
Basic Model for Recognising, Respecting, and Responding to Diversity (Word, 56kb) gives an idea of how a school's flowchart might look.
Framework Containing the Key elements for Responding to Diversity in Secondary Schools (Word, 55kb) is an adaptation of this that could be used by secondary schools.
Examples of flowcharts
The following schools have given permission to publish flowcharts that show their system for identifying and responding to the diverse needs of their students.
It is recommended that other schools use them for reference only. The process of creating a flowchart is only effective if the flowchart is developed in response to the unique needs of the school's learning community.
Note: the numbering of the stages in these flowcharts differs from the online model. The original stages 1, 1a, 2-6, plus the ongoing monitoring evaluation, have been renamed as stages 1-8.
