Setting Goals

Goals are medium to long-term statements of intent. They are focused on the core business of raising student achievement. They will be set in the areas you have identified as priorities for improvement. They describe the improved outcomes your students would need to achieve to make your vision a reality.

What are your priorities for improvement?

How are national priorities for education reflected in your priorities?
If you have decided that the priority issues in your school differ from the National Education Priorities what evidence can you show your community to convince them that wider societal concerns are receiving attention?

In your priority areas, how do you want the achievement picture to look in three to five years' time?

Are your goals realistic and manageable?

What implications might your goals have for teaching and learning programmes?
What implications might your goals have for the way you would allocate the resources (personnel and professional development, funding, equipment) that you can control in your school?

How will you help your school community become aware of, and share in, these goals?
