This paper provides an overview of the first phase of the Technology Education Assessment in Lower Secondary (TEALS) research project. The theoretical framework that has been developed to support the assessment of students' technological practice is discussed and illustrated with examples of unit frameworks, which are being trialled during the second phase. An analysis of data from the first phase of the project is presented and discussed in terms of future implications.
