Who are the wickED forums for?

The wickED forums are for students aged 7 -12 working at level 1 – 4 of the New Zealand curriculum to discuss issues about their class and homework. Language Talk Maths Talk and Study Topics Talk.

Why does my post need to be approved?

We aim to keep students safe on wickED. We do not post messages that contain:

  • personal emails or physical addresses
  • put downs of your own school, other schools, students, teachers, or yourself
  • school names
  • chat
  • swear words
  • negativism
  • elitism
  • racism
  • sexism
  • advertising messages
  • secret codes or messages. In general, we want a positive, up-beat tone on the site. The teachers and other moderators check posts for all of these things.

Why was my post not approved?

On wickED the teachers (the moderators) rule! Your post may not have been relevant to the topic, or it may have contained something inappropriate for this site – see Why does my post need to be approved?

Who will answer my questions?

Teachers from various parts of New Zealand, and other students. The teachers are very experienced teachers, who are highly qualified to give you answers and advice. Their replies in the forum have the word ‘’Teacher’ and the mortarboard icon (which represents expertise) so you can identify their answers.

Is spelling important?

The wickED search engine can only find words that have been correctly spelt.

Can you use text language on the forums?

Some students do, but text language is used mainly by new students on wickED.

Am I allowed to answer other people’s questions?

Yes. Responding to other students is a good way to reinforce your own learning. We encourage students and other forum members to help each other.

Can I edit my post?

Yes, but only when you are logged in.

Can I delete my post?

Yes, when you are logged in.

Why can’t I register?

There could be a number of reasons:

  • You may have chosen an inappropriate username.
  • Your username may have already been taken.
  • The password may be the same as the username.
  • The email address may not be correct. (Email addresses are automatically verified before a registration is successful.)
  • Check the spelling of your email address.
  • The email address you gave may be at another computer and you have not received the reply.

Does putting ‘Urgent’ or ‘Please reply asap!!’ in the subject line get a faster answer?

No, sorry, it is not very helpful and does not speed up a response. Teachers respond in the order that posts are made.

Can I include links to websites in my posts?

Yes, but all links are checked to make sure that they go to relevant websites that do not contain anything inappropriate.
