Eureka! Inventors and Inventions

The wickED topics are integrated units with activities from several curriculum areas and involve a range of thinking and learning skills. Below is an outline of where the activities for the current topic fit in the curriculum.

Science

Strand: Making Sense of the Nature of Science and its Relationship to Technology:
Level: 2
Achievement objective: Students can investigate and describe how simple items of technology work;
Level: 3
Achievement objective: Students can investigate examples of simple technological devices and link these with some scientific ideas.

The Arts

Drama

Strand: Developing Ideas in Drama
Level: 1-4
Achievement objective: Students will contribute and develop ideas in drama based on personal experience, imagination, and other stimuli.

Visual Arts

Strand: Developing Practical Knowledge in the Visual Arts
Level: 3-4
Achievement objective: Students will investigate the purposes of objects and images in past and present cultures and identify contexts in which they were or are made, viewed, and valued.

Strand: Developing Ideas in the Visual Arts
Level: 3-4
Achievement objective: Students will generate and develop visual ideas in response to a variety of motivations, using imagination, observation, and invention with materials.

Mathematics

Strand: Algebra
Level: 2-3
Achievement objective: Exploring patterns and relationships. Within a range of meaningful contexts, students should be able to continue a sequential pattern and describe a rule for this

English

Strand: Transactional Writing
Level: 2-3
Achievement objective: Students should write instructions, explanations, and factual accounts, and express personal viewpoints, in a range of authentic contexts, sequencing ideas logically.

Strand: Visual Language – presenting
Level 3- 4
Achievement objective: Using static and moving images, students should combine verbal and visual features to communicate information, ideas, or narrative through layout, drama, video, computer, or other technologies and media.

Technology

Strand: Technology and Society
Level: 2
Achievement objective: Within a range of technological areas and contexts, students should explore and compare the roles of some example of technology in daily life in their own and another time or place

Strand: Technological Capability
Within a range of technological areas and contexts, students should produce technological solutions. They will, with reference to identified needs and opportunities:
(Level 2) present and promote ideas, strategies, and outcomes throughout technological practice
(Level 3) present designs, plans, and outcomes to selected groups, using suitable means of communication.
