My research project

Ed wants to know all about the marine life in New Zealand. You can help him by choosing a marine animal that you want to know more about. Using as many different methods of research as you can, answer the questions about your animal:

  1. Choose a sea creature to research
  2. Open the Research project document and print it out.
  3. Either: Complete the questions.
Or: Make a PowerPoint presenting the answers to the questions on each slide, include pictures.

Email your PowerPoint to ed@tki.org.nz

Marine reserves

WOW! The coastlines and oceans really are busy - no wonder it's important to have marine reserves to protect marine life and the sea environment. We need a new marine reserve at a beach near you. Use these sites to complete the Marine reserve submission form.

Whataitai and Ngake - Te Whanganui-ā-Tara

Whataitai and Ngake are two taniwha who lived in the Wellington area. Read the story about the two taniwha and their escapades.

  1. Have a look at the petition to save the albatross.
  2. Read about the damage caused by set nets.
  3. Open the petition and complete it.

Email your petition to ed@tki.org.nz

The coast

Many New Zealand coastal environments have been impacted adversely by people.

  1. Use this website to find out four different reasons why mahinga kai (food-gathering sites) have been depleted of sea food.
  2. Name four different ways that we can help our coast.
  3. Try this Kaimoana crossword.
