NZ Transport Agency has developed teaching and learning resources for 7 learning areas especially Health and physical education, English, and Mathematics and statistics.
They are closely aligned to the New Zealand Curriculum and include rail safety, cycle safety, passenger safety, travelling to a big event, and Feet First - Walk to School Every Week resources.

Update on e-asTTle training and support

e-asTTle seminars are free to schools in 2012. The schedule for Term 1 is now available.

If you are interested in attending, please email e-asttle@evaluate.co.nz. Please include email addresses and phone numbers for up to two people from your school who would like to attend.

Dates and venues will be confirmed as soon as possible. Information will be updated regularly in the Training and Support section of the e-asTTle website, and in the news section of Assessment Online.

Individual support is also available for those schools already using e-asTTle. It is flexible to needs, and may include phone or Skype conversations, e-mail or in-school support. Please email with a request for assistance.

Providing focused PLD in 2012

The new system will be fully operational this year, and this means changes to the way kaiako and teachers will access PLD The Education Gazette reports on the process, and what it will mean for students, teachers, and schools.

ChildFund Young Playwrights Challenge

ChildFund New Zealand is giving year 6, 7, and 8 students the opportunity to write the script for a one act play adapted from the book, Mary's Christmas Yarn, a light-hearted tale of a young NZ girl who learns what children in developing countries might do with the gift of a sheep.
A supporting unit plan is available for teachers.
The winning script will be performed by professional actors at a public premiere in time for Christmas 2012.

The best scripts from each school must be submitted by 30 April 2012 with a maximum of three scripts per school, class entries only.
