Getting the most out of the TKI communities

TKI has communities for each of the seven essential learning areas, as well as Māori education and a number of Ministry initiatives. Each community has a news page, with links to collections of curriculum-related teaching and learning material.

Getting there

Choose a kete from the Communities page, or go straight to a community from the drop down menu on the right-hand side of the homepage. You can get to communities using the tab along the top of all TKI pages.

The Communities page has links to each TKI community

What's in a community?

Most communities have a news page as their first page. The news page is developed and updated regularly by an online editor who highlights new and interesting material.

Every community news page is in a similar format

You can email the community editor to suggest items or messages (click on their photo to send them an email). This is a great way to share ideas with others who have similar interests.

Some communities have "sub-communities", as some essential learning areas have more than one aspect to them. The social sciences community, for example, has a social studies sub-community.

If you are a regular visitor to a community, you can bookmark it or add it to your favourites. Refresh your screen every time you visit to make sure you see the latest updated version of the page.

Curriculum-related materials

Example: the Curriculum & Assessment materials popup in Mathematics Follow the arrow on the right-hand column of the community news page to find curriculum-related material and sites relevant to your subject area.

If you choose the curriculum and assessment link or the pedagogy and professional support link, a pop-up box will open. The links in this box take you to collections of curriculum-related materials relevant to the community that you are visiting.

Click on a link to choose what you want to see. You can move, resize, and scroll up and down the pop-up box.

Community Interaction

Example: the Community Interaction popup in Mathematics When you follow the link to "Community Interaction", a pop-up box will open. Choose one of the options in the box to share your feedback, submit a review of a site that you found on TKI, or join a discussion group.
