Cyber Skills Aotearoa - Information Privacy and Security course available now

Grok Academy and CORE Education have created Cyber Skills Aotearoa, a programme to develop cyber security skills and dispositions in ākonga in Years 6-13.

Cyber Skills Aotearoa consists of classroom-ready activities and challenges that could be used within Hangarau Matihiko | Digital Technologies programmes and to raise awareness of cyber security careers. 

The first course from the Cyber Skills Aotearoa programme: Information Privacy and Security is out now.

The Information Privacy and Security course covers:

  • purposeful sharing
  • password security
  • password reuse and multi-factor authentication (MFA)
  • phishing and scams
  • careers in cyber security.

The course is free for Years 9-13 and is available in both English and te reo Māori.

The Year 6-8 course is coming soon.

Kaiako can also request sets of professionally printed cyber cards - a useful classroom resource to engage ākonga in rich discussions about online privacy and security.

English and maths learning areas released

15/5/2023

English and mathematics and statistics are the second and third learning areas to be released as part of the wider refresh of The New Zealand Curriculum.

They are now available for you to explore and use on the Curriculum Refresh website.

Schools have until the beginning of 2027 before they must use them.

The supports for Te ao tangata | social sciences learning area (released in 2022) have also been released:

Support for English and maths will be available later in 2023.

A self-guided module on the Progressions Model in Te Mātaiaho is also now available here:
